Transit Protection

At Manchester Moving and Storage we treat your goods as if they were our own. But occasionally, some minor damage occurs during your move. To protect your belongings, we offer all our customers three levels of protection coverage.

Basic Value Protection
Basic Value Protection is the minimum coverage which your goods can be released and is provided at no additional cost to you. Manchester Moving and Storage's maximum liability for your shipment is established by multiplying the weight of the shipment by $.60.

For example: 6,000-pound shipment. The coverage would be 6,000 x $ .60 = $ 3,600.00.

Full Replacement Value Protection
Full Replacement Value Protection is the most comprehensive plan available for protection of your goods. When you select this option, articles that are lost, damaged or destroyed will, at the mover's option, be either repaired, replaced with articles of like kind and quality, or a cash settlement will be made for the repairs or for replacement of the articles at their current market value, regardless of the age of the lost or damaged articles. Under this option, you have two choices for establishing your mover's maximum liability on your shipment:

1) You can declare a value based on the weight of your shipment times an amount of not less than $ 4.00 a pound,
or
2) You can declare a higher lump sum amount (for example $ 30,000).

The cost is shown in the following table. The value you declare on your shipment must be at least equal to the weight of your shipment multiplied by $ 4.00 per pound, subject to a minimum declaration of $ 5,000. For example, if your shipment weighs 5,000 pounds, the minimum value that you must declare is $ 20,000 (5,000 pounds multiplied by $ 4.00 per pound). You can also choose a higher lump sum amount based on your estimate of what it would cost to replace all of your shipment.

Additional charges apply for shipments valued at more than $ 250,000 and for shipments to and from Alaska.

Note: All household goods are required to assume some level of liability for your shipment while in their care. This level of liability is set by our tariff and is not insurance. In the event of a loss or claim, MMS's maximum liability is determined by the value at which you release your goods and the coverage option you select. If no coverage is selected then Basic Value Protection applies.
